Contact Lenses

Contact Lens

Contact lenses are a thin curved plastic lens that is placed on the tear film that covers the surface our eyes (the cornea). Contact lenses are most commonly worn for vision correction, however, there are also contact lenses for purely cosmetic or novelty purposes and some that are used for therapeutic purposes. Contact lenses are medical devices that are regulated by Health Canada and require a prescription – they can be hard or soft or a combination of the two. Majority of vision conditions can be fit with soft disposable contact lenses (including astigmatism); however, some conditions or ocular diseases will require specialty contact lenses. People that wear contact lenses are at higher risk for conditions such as corneal ulcers and keratitis. These conditions, if left untreated, can lead to vision loss and even blindness.

In order to keep both the health and sight of your eyes at its best, it is important for all contact lens wearers to be seen at least once a year for a comprehensive eye examination. Additionally, it is just as important to follow your eye doctors prescribed wear and replacement schedule for your lenses. Our doctors and staff continually update our knowledge on new advances in contact lenses. We pride ourselves in offering our patients the latest technology to fit your lifestyle. We want you to achieve the best comfort and quality of vision that’s possible with contact lenses. Please make sure to ask us at your appointment what contacts we would recommend for you.
