Corneal topography measures out about 10mm of the cornea as opposed to traditional keratometry which only measures the center 3mm. This gives us the overall shape (like a topographical map) of the cornea and helps identify any asymmetry or irregularity. In addition to be able to more accurately diagnose corneal disorders such as keratoconus, it also helps us better manage refractive surgery patients as well as achieve more accuracy with complex contact lens fittings.
